Jeremy Shaw RESIDENCY PROGRAM

At Max Planck Research Group Neuroanatomy and Connectivity
Leipzig (Between October and November 2015)
After the collaboration between artist Clemens von Wedemeyer and neuroscientist Alessandro Tavano (started in Leipzig last year and presented in Venice last May in the Art and Neuroscience symposium series of the AoN in occasion of the Venice Biennale), the residency program of the AoN in collaboration with the Max Planck Research Group Neuroanatomy and Connectivity of the MPI for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig is continuing. Artists in residence are given a desk at the MPI and a studio by HALLE 14 at Spinnerei.

Das Interdisziplinäre Forschungsprojekt „Sound / Space / Body – A Process“ bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von Kunst und Wissenschaft. Es verbindet Tanz, Neurowissenschaft, Philosophie und Bildende Kunst, um auf dem Feld der Wahrnehmungsforschung neue Erkenntnisse in den Bereichen Ästhetik und der Wissenschaft zu gewinnen.

Den Ausgangspunkt des Projektes stellt eine Ton–Raum–Installation von Bernhard Leitner dar. Über das Medium Tanz wird die Wahrnehmung von Klang untersucht, um schließlich durch das Sehen von Bewegung ein „anderes“ –körperliches– Hören zu vermitteln.

Aus den jeweiligen Hörkonstellationen bildet sich ein Kommunikationsnetz zwischen den Tänzern. Das Publikum beobachtet diese kommunikativen Vorgänge und erhält so Zugang zum „anderen“ Hören. Eine Utopie zeichnet sich ab: alle Hörenden werden zu Tänzern…
